Date : 2012-10-08 16:02:11

DescriptionSusan L. McCauley began Mekong River Textiles after living in Thailand for three years. A weaver, she was drawn to the beautiful, exotic and intricate ikat fabrics produced in primitive upcountry villages. She began working with groups attempting to reverse the migration of young girls to Bangkok's brothels by creating weaving jobs in the villages. Every year Susan spends a month in Thailand especially Esan the country's northeast region known for its silk and cotton weaving. She works with weavers there and in Laos and Cambodia to develop quality products appealing to US textile artists and sewers. In addition to designing clothing patterns for these special handwovens, Susan also designs garments available at shows and offers custom work to clients by appointment.
