DescriptionMission: Guatemala, a program created by the Kateri Tekakwitha Fund, is working to change the marginal situation of some Guatemalan families. They work to empower the Guatemalans by showing them how their skills can provide a means to support their families. In doing so, they accomplish their goals:Preserve their ancient Mayan craft of backstrap and foot loom weaving and secure the much needed income for a better life for themselves and their families. Their work connects weavers and other artisans to small, local businesses who can create hand-woven pieces and other handicrafts. In turn, Mission: Guatemala market their functional art to the U.S. Through this process they are able to use their skills, learn new business skills, and earn a fair living wage.
