Date : 2011-03-28 16:52:58

DescriptionWola Nani means "We embrace and develop one another" in Xhosa, a phrase that embodies Wola Nani's mission of providing services to people with HIV and AIDS and reducing the stigma faced by those with the disease. Through skills training, counseling, and family services, Wola Nani improves the quality of life for its community by reaching out to those who are traditionally marginalized women and the poor. Working in Cape Town's surrounding townships, Wola Nani operates support groups and provides child healthcare, daycare, and home-based care for people with HIV and AIDS. They design AIDS education workshops and awareness-raising initiatives to foster dialogue on the disease, turn discrimination into acceptance, and ultimately stem the spread of the disease. Wola Nani's crafts production unit is an income-generation project tailored to the needs of HIV positive women. The crafts produced require relatively modest skills and can be made at home, so women are able to continue working even as they struggle with deteriorating health.
