DescriptionBehbud, meaning welfare in Urdu, was established in 1970 and has been working to provide low-income women with employment, skills training, healthcare and educational facilities for their families across some of the most underprivileged areas of Pakistan . The skills these women obtain encourage economic independence and create a strong sense of community, whilst preserving tradition and culture. Behbud offers these women a chance to be creative, adding their own personal touches to the products. The women learn embroidery, stitching and smocking. Block-printing skills are used to produce ethnic children's clothes for onward sale at the Behbud shop and exhibitions around Pakistan.
