Handicrafts corp to tie up with NID to promote Goan artisans (India)

DescriptionPANAJI: The Goa Handicrafts Rural Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) will tie-up with the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, to design and develop various specialized tools for artisans from Goa. The decision was made during a recent board meeting, Sameer Salgaocar, chairperson of the GHRSSIDC told a press conference on Thursday. "NID is an autonomous institute set by government of India for design, training, service and research which has gained international recognition as one of the foremost institutions in the field of design. This tie up is aimed at improving the livelihood of artisans in Goa by simplifying the existing processes as well as productivity," Salgaocar added. GHRSSIDC has plans to collaborate with National Jute Board for creation of livelihood in Goa through training in production of jute diversified products. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between GHRSSIDC and National Jute Board will consist of a project for training and handholding of 1,000 women and rural poor in production of jute diversified products over a period of two years and will be signed shortly.
