Role of craftsmen and Craft organizations in the social development processes in Central Asia

DescriptionIn my speach, I'll try to give small overview of current situation and vision of problems and perspectives in crafts development in Central Asia, based on the experience of CACSA. Also, I will try to design the role and place of the craftsmen and craft organizations in the cultural, social and economical development of the region. Central Asia can be compared to a giant cauldron, where for millennial history, different ethnics and cultures mixed. People populating Central Asia from ancient times can be divided in to two main groups: nomads and settlers. Some nations have mixed forms of household. Since ancient times, Turkic tribes that founded contemporary Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Karakalpak, Uzbek and Turkmen had nomadic way of life. Their main activities were cattle breeding and hunting. Tajiks and Uzbeks that became sedentary, were mainly engaged in farming and had developed village and city culture and trading traditions. ...
